The site is located on a mountain slope, facing the Pacific Ocean. It takes half-hour to reach the site by car from Miyazaki city center. The building hosts a hotel and a restaurant, surrounded by a natural environment. Himematsu Architecture renovated a part of the existing facility at the entrance of the site. The building has a double wall, with an exterior wood wall with ellipse holes. The “porousness” of the facade protects visitors’ privacy by blocking visual lines from the street underneath, but still preserving an astonishing view from the interior.

The Japanese studio elaborately decided the position and sizes of the ellipse holes at the construction site, confirming visual lines from inside and outside. The new facade is meant to become a strong mark thanks to its position at the entrance of the site, that easily viewed from the street.
