Ode to the Ardennes

Inspired by the Belgian moral tale Annette and Lubin written by Jean-François Marmontel, the two lamps designed by Jean-François D’Or is an ode to the city of Spa.

Annette and Lubin are the luminous protagonists of a tale written by Jean-François Marmontel in 1761, telling the real story of Marie Schmitz and Gilles Dewalt from the Belgian town of Spa. Jean-François D’Or reinterprets their story in a collection of lamps for Hind Rabii, presented at Maison&Objet 2017.

This couple became, during their lifetime, Annette and Lubin of Spa, giving their name to the verdant hill at the top of which they resided, in a nostalgic praise this city in the Belgian Ardennes. Annette & Lubin is thus a collection of lights inspired by this Belgian region and these two figures. The versatile assemblages of two geometrical forms reveal the intersections of materials and colors: blown glass and oak of these forests.
