Vondom at Atellani

#122 During the Design Week the Spanish outdoor-furnishing company Vondom showcased its collections in the splendid setting of Casa degli Atellani in Milan. #salone2015

Casa degli Atellani is an old mansion opposite Santa Maria delle Grazie where Leonardo and his assistants stayed while they were painting The Last Supper and it is where Domus presented the Ramak Fazel’s “Analog Blast” exhibition in 2013.

This year, it is the venue chosen by the Spanish outdoor-furnishing company to present its collections in Milan, over and above appearing at Design Week. Twenty-one designers were asked to interpret the outdoor concept, including Ora Ito, Eugeni Quitllet, Ross Lovegrove and Karim Rashid.

Ramon Esteve

Seated on pieces in Eugeni Quitllet’s Bum Bum collection, Ramon Esteve – Vondom’s creative director and designer of the Ulm, Faz Vela and Frame lines in the latest collection – explains the direction pursued by the company from Valencia. “I began as creative director of Vondom in its second year,” – says Esteve – “and recently we have been bringing out new collections at a fast pace, a bit like the fashion world.” He continues, “The growing demand from the contract sector recently prompted us to change our production processes, gradually changing from rotational to injection moulding, costlier but faster, which means we can reduce manufacturing times and deliver our products faster.”
