Kitchness
Kitchness is the singular thesis project presented by the three young designers Alfonso De Fabrizio, Gianluca Garzotto e Nicolò Gerin, all students at Naba, Milan. The kit of kitchen items, including plates, forks and a pastadoser, is conceived to work out while cooking. This hybrid design combines the world of fitness to the italian pasta's tradition and more generally to the kitchen, and it aims at filling the the downtime linked to food preparation.
Every object addresses a specific phase of training: the forks are turned into handles for jumping, dishes become modular weights for strength training and the pastadoser a handle for toning exercises.
Young trio's research focuses on current topics such as the cult of the body, the "fitness at home" trend and most of all on the bad aspects of "fast food" culture, so common in our chaotic lives.
"The ideal of a slow food culture, which we found for instance inside the Japanese culinary tradition, leads us to develope a design shaped on gestures, timing and actions, often hidden by a chaotic way of life", says Alfonzo De Fabrizio.
"The shape is not random: the tines of the fork are very short in order to "grabble" less pasta and allows a slow approach to the food, the pastadoser is designed to take a quite fair amount of food", he continues.
The kit is made out of polypropylene (loaded with aluminum hydroxide in the case of dishes for weighing them down to 500 gr) which is a very durable material, easy to clean as well as not dangerous during the fitness sections.

The colours used for the prototype enhance the playful aspect of the proposal, introducing the typical tones of fitness environments into a simple, domestic space.
