The shop's ceiling is completely exposed, and the floor is unfinished — making apparent a rough undercoat mortar — while the walls are plainly finished with vinyl tile. The design elements seek to resist the idea of a newly built shop: lauan plywood boxes, varying in size and shape, are scattered here and there, in an "under construction" spirit, evoking the idea of a loading deck.
"We imagined a whole scenario of a visitor's perceptual journey, and materialised it in this shop," states architect Jo Nagasaka. The experience of the space was imagined as an approach that allows for the discovery of "extraordinary features", from shiny metal ducts hanging overhead, to lauan wooden boxes crafted like an artwork. When stepping inside, visitors might notice more exquisite features: sharp and thin edges of acrylic shelves radiating a myriad ever-changing colours, upon which the retail products are displayed.
