Licor Cafe by Tomás Alonso

A set designed by the Spanish designer to contain and enjoy a very special beverage, that his dad has been making for many years

Licor Cafe is home made with care by Enrique Alonso in Vigo, Spain. A traditional recipe from Galicia in the North West of Spain, Licor Cafe is made from Orujo, coffee beans & sugar. Orujo, also known as Aguardiente (literally 'burning water') is still made locally in many villages of the region and it is obtained from the distillation of the pomace of grapes – over 50% alcohol. To be served cold (servir frio) and enjoyed responsibly. This set is designed with care by Tomás Alonso to contain and enjoy this very special beverage that his dad has been making for many years. One bottle and five glasses to serve five friends around a table. Each friend can pick the glass of its choice, but none of them have to worry: each glass holds the same quantity of Licor Cafe.
Born in Vigo, Spain, Tomás Alonso has been traveling since the age of 19 to pursue his career as a designer. He lived in the United States for seven years. There he studied Industrial Design at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in Florida, while he worked as a designer for Italian aluminium wheel company OZ Racing, where he eventually became the North America design director. Wan ting to expand his practice and eventually his skills, he moved first to Australia where he stared his Studio and lived for one and a half years and then to London to complete a Masters degree at the Royal College of Art. Shortly after graduating he started OKAYstudio along with other 5 designers, a collective and platform from which him and the other components of the studio continue their individual design work as well as collaborate in exhibitions and the occasional project. Tomás Alonso designs with people in mind, "for me it's very important that what I design will eventually make its way into people's hands and people's homes. I would like my objects to be used, lived with and enjoyed." His designs have an elegant functionality. Simple elements are combined in more complex structures to provide people with the building blocks to create their own environments. Both, individually and with OKAYstudio, Tomás has exhibited widely around Europe, from the Design Museum and Whitechapel Gallery in London to the Milan furniture as well as exhibitions in Spain and France.
