In Porto, a gym looks like a club

Designed to ride the wave of Instagrammability, an exercise room uses lights to segment the environment and accentuate the hedonistic experience of working out.

Developed on a surface of 110 square meters, the extension of the gym that Esqvta designed in the city of Porto takes inspiration from movies and atmospheres of the 70s and 80s, used as a motivational charge to recreate a set where the worship of the body is exalted.

The theatrical effect is obtained through the insertion on the ceiling of two white circular structures that host a texture of lamps with golden diffuser and visible bulbs. The desired instagrammability - by now an implicit requirement of many new public spaces - is then accentuated by the use of pink neon and diffused white tones. The calibrated play of light continues in the long corridor leading to the hall, which through its Tron-style luminous frames makes the experience of the passage towards the sport dimension metaphorical.
