The ephemeral restaurant in Mexico inspired by Metropolis

The temporary restaurant designed by Juskani Alonso Estudio is based on the 1927 science-fiction movie by Fritz Lang: the use of lights and shadows and the reinterpretation of scenographic elements remind the expressionist work.

Metropol by Juskani Alonso Estudio is an ephemeral restaurant conceived for Millesime GNP, a leading company in the creation of gastronomic concepts. The temporary set up was held in the Citibaname centre, in Mexico City, inspired by cinema: Mexican architects and international chefs reinterpreted a movie in spaces and food.

The restaurant by the Mexican studio is inspired by Metropolis by Fritz Lang and by the atmospheres of the 1927 science-fiction movie. The interior space, that hosted 104 guests, recalls the caves where labourers met to find new ways to live, while the buildings of Metropolis appear along the walls. The play of lights and shadows on concrete and wood creates a connection with the expressionist work.
