Can Bordoy is a small 24 rooms hotel with garden, swimming pool, spa and panoramic terrace located in La Lonja, an historical district in the heart of Palma de Mallorca. A 2500 sqm and 500 years old abandoned building that OHLAB, an architecture studio directed by Paloma Hernaiz and Jaime Oliver, completely renovated in accordance with its owner Mikael Hall. One of the project’s most important interventions has been opening the doors of the garden which, together with the inner courtyard and the terrace, counts a 1000 sqm outdoor space. The OHLAB team was inspired by the principles of the traditional Japanese technique of kintsugi - the art of repairing ancient broken porcelain with gold dust thus obtaining a repaired piece that does not hide the fracture – by creating a project that does not cover but rather reconciles the existing heterodox eclecticism.
On the ground floor, in the hall and in the central staircase, OHLAB found solutions to give depth through reflective materials such as mirrors, water and steel. Antiques from Paris, Copenhagen, Stockholm and Istanbul are combined with handcrafted pieces from Mallorca such as the Gordiola lamps as well as design furnishings by GTV Thonet, Baxter, Moroso, Artemide, Norr, Santa & Cole and Flos.
Surrounded by original stone walls from the XII century, brutalist structural reinforcements of exposed concrete, and delicate natural stone finishes, the spa consists of a bathroom area that includes different water experiences, massage cabins and, in the garden, an outdoor cabin.
