Marble as a design paradigm

The thought of the Italian designer Matteo Leorato explained through three projects in marble.

From Australia to China, then Spain, more precisely in the multicultural Barcelona, and inexorably back to his origins: the Veneto region in northern Italy. Matteo Leorato, a product designer from Verona, sublimates the experiences acquired around the world into objects of clear and balanced proportions, capable of arousing curiosity or, as the designer explains: “Products must come alive through the gestures of people, who make them alive. The concept of an ‘object-statue’ is very far from my design philosophy.”

A clear and decisive poetics that can be found in the products he has developed with various companies, all united by the use of a material with a strong Venetian accent and with a long tradition behind it: marble. This material is the focus of Matteo Leorato's research, who each time gives it a different character: ironic and balanced in the Block Round pendant lamp (in white Carrara marble), contemporary and geometric in the Rialto project, a revisitation of the traditional chaotic design of the terrazzo floor (both for Mondo Marmo Design), innovative and malleable in the series of tables Loggia for Portego. All of these projects in marble allow the search for harmony of form and let the material emerge in its full potential.
