This apartment is a multipurpose space: it is a place of residence, an art studio and an exhibition place where an artist, his wife and two dogs live. It is born from a makeover challenge for a television program. 80 sqm for rent in downtown in Shanghai renovated by Topos Design Clans.

Before the renovation, the house was a place without identity, with paintings everywhere, the designers recount. Now it is a place where the everyday interwines with the creation of art without conflict. The renewal brings together the needs of the couple: Seven, artist, wants a warm and loving space for his wife Jackie. His wife, Jackie, wants an open and free space for Seven’s art. The living room is the emblem of the union of art and life: on a black and white background stands the life of the couple that emerges as a color on a three-dimensional canvas.

The luminous ceiling offers three types of lighting, each one studied respectively for painting, for displaying works of art, and for domestic life. In the corner space next to the entrance, there is a group of lockers in which there are tools for painting. Between the lockers, there is a two-meter-long movable wall, which can become an exhibition space for works of art. On the right side of the entrance, there is a small golden niche, which is for the keys and leashes of the dogs. On the other side, there is a shoe rack that can be pulled out. At the center of this apartment there is a golden bed for the two dogs. The main façade of the doghouse is an abstract, pixellated wall. The corridor repeats the golden motif, and there are three doors that lead to the green bathroom (like the jungle), to the blue kitchen (like a lake) and to the pink bedroom (like love).
