Bogotá. An airport lounge with a calming atmosphere

The second oldest airline in the world renovates its lounge spaces with a futuristic interior by Francesc Rifé Studio, focused on travellers’ well-being.

To celebrates its imminent centennial, Colombia’s national airline Avianca opened a very special lounge space for the El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá. The project was commissioned to Catalan firm Francesc Rifé Studio, with the task to represent in its sober approach the world’s second oldest airline after KLM. The interior is a careful study on brand identity and projects the company to the future with its spaceship-like atmosphere.

Avianca’s new lounge is an open space of 3,500 square meters layered within transition areas for employees and two client lounges (for its Gold and Diamond program). All these differentiate from each other through the change of pavement but not through enclosures. The seats are designed and displayed in order to favor the constant movement of users. The neutral colour scheme is reinforced through the matt walnut wood, grey carpets and ceramic tiles, combined with tailored furniture, ergonomic seating and light fixtures. Semi-open screens guarantee good soundproof, while small architectures punctuate the space offering leisure areas such as reading corners, bars or TV.
