From Pharell Williams to Michele De Lucchi, the work of the Swiss photographer Lukas Wassmann amazes for its surreal details that weave the mesh of reality. His favourite subject? His dog, Gustl...

Born in Switzerland in 1980, Lukas Wassmann, who trained in carpentry before converting to photography, has taken the portraits of countless people, from Valentino to Pharell Williams. For Domus he created the cover of the special on Michele De Lucchi, an insert of the magazine’s December issue. Design, fashion, reportage, his friends and animals – in particular, his dog Gustl – are his main focus.

It’s been said that his work, made up of clean lines and technical perfection, is an expression of Swiss aesthetics: coolness and severity. He laughs when hearing this, yet he doesn’t deny.  When we ask him if reality is interesting enough to be photographed, he answers, with extreme frankness, that reality is the only topic he could truly take into consideration.
