In the setting of the nineteenth century building, the artist, originally from Genoa, placed 21 nude models on a mound of dark earth. The group gradually decomposes, at which point the girls fall to the ground.The earth, dark and wet like that of cultivated fields, is a reference to land art. Beecroft explains, “the performance juxtaposes the purity of the female body, its nudity, to the dirty colour and substance of the earth”. E.S.
