Launching the ambitious cultural programme will be a collection of 400 pieces – paintings, sculptures, engravings, photographs, furniture and clothing – “witnesses” to the evolution of the capital in terms of architecture and urban planning from 1600 to 1800, brought together in the exhibition “Il Museo racconta la città” (open until December). Starting with paintings and statues linked to memorable events in the history of the papal city and which play homage to Pious VI – to whom the construction of the palace is owed – moving on to the representation of places within the eternal city – many of which have now been completely transformed – to then come on to the work of painters and sculptors who made Rome an obligatory stop and the world of the great merchant families who featured strongly in the life of the times: Barberini, Rospigliosi, Giustiniani Bandini, Brancaccio and Torlonia. A collection of photographs focuses on the passage of papal Rome to Rome the capital of Italy.
