Along the dry stone walls and terraces of an ancient vineyard in Turkey, Ediz Demirel Works recently finished the design of a small forest retreat. The vacation home nestled in the vegetation of the Kozak plateau in Pergamon features a light architecture that rests on the tilled and stony soil. The cabin fits through an interior steel structure, clad on the outside with corten panels, while on the inside it is characterized by the use of light wood, drawing a minimal space that grows in height.

At the ground level, as one enters the small shelter, a contemporary conversation pit can be found, in continuity with the topography of the place, becoming the centerpiece of this dwelling, from which one can admire the Pergamon plateau and sit around the fire. The service spaces, on the other hand, are created within a series of alcoves designed as an extension of the large living area.

From here, a mezzanine accommodates the sleeping quarters and a small work space, while the cabin section narrows to resemble the shape of a tent.

The relationship between inside and outside is managed through a wide crosscut at the ground floor, by the conversation pit, and by some small openings jutting outward in the upper portion of the cabin.

The cabin thus returns a tectonic architecture, in dialogue with the landscape and topography, drawing a minimal space in which to immerse oneself in the woods of Turkey.
