Located on the South Tyrolean plateau of the Alpe di Siusi, Icaro Hotel is an accommodation facility renovated and extended by MoDusArchitects. Originally a 1930s chalet, the volume overlooks the mountain landscape, part of the Dolomites UNESCO natural heritage site.
The studio expanded the underground car park, added a staff accommodation building and a new wing with eight rooms, and reorganised all the common areas, which also include a wellness centre with swimming pool.
A new loggia of wooden columns characterises the main facade, referring to a row of trees that becomes a distinctive feature of the project. The new elevation is characterised by 13 trestle pillars 7.5 metres high which connect the ground floor to the roof and serve as a frame for the rooms. Materials and furnishings fit into the space, dialoguing with the landscape, and enveloped in vibrant, welcoming colours.
