18 architectural competitions to do in quarantine

From a wine-culture center in China to the Canadian LGBTQ2 national monument, we present a selection of the next call for entries to apply for now until February 2021, for students and architects.

Whether they are designed for a future construction, or more simple call for ideas, architectural and design competitions are a foundamental part of the profession for the simplicity of registration, for the visibility they give to young creatives and – last but not least – for the money prize.

We present here a list of the most interesting announcements and competitions for architects (and not) in the coming months, some more suitable for students or recent graduate architects, others more complex and better for more established design studios. Listed by deadline priority, the themes that characterize this year’s announcements range from micro-living to graphic design contests, from projects for reuse and restoration of specific sites to a more utopian competition for ideas on how to live on Mars.
