(ab)Normal, a pavilion hybridising real and digital between Tbilisi and Milan

The Italian collective reinterprets the languages of content creators from an architectural point of view and for the Tbilisi Biennial designs a double pavilion connecting the two cities.

In the last few months, almost everyone – even boomers – have become accustomed to interacting through digital platforms such as Zoom, Meet or Instagram. For some years now we find youngsters using them to create contents and experiment with new forms of relationships. Virtual reality is also able to transform the physical spaces of our daily lives. For example, you can see the "room tours" organised by youtubers to discover how they transform their rooms.

The Milanese collective (ab)normal interprets this phenomenon with the Dicho project, a double pavilion commissioned by the Tbilisi Biennial that connects the capital of Georgia with the Triennale di Milano. This ambiguous space will host live and streaming conversations and events until 4 November 2020.

As the name suggests, Dicho speaks of the dichotomy between real and virtual. Through chromatic disappearing surfaces (commonly called green screens, but blue in this case), organisers and guests immerse themselves in a hybrid reality, which interprets the operating modes, languages and aesthetics of new digital entrepreneurs.
