The new life of a single family house in Majorca

Between the narrow streets and compact fronts of the village of Llucmajor on the island of Majorca, Salvà Ortín Arquitectes renovate a house from the beginning of the 20th century, adapting it to the needs of contemporary living.

The intervention of the local studio Salvà Ortín Arquitectes on the Tx house consists of the extension and renovation of a building from the last century in the urban fabric of Llucmajor on the island of Majorca.

Although the building is not of particular architectural value and has an ordinary character, the architects choose to maintain all the typological elements of the original building that do not interfere with the function of the new building thus preserving its essence and identity within its complex urban environment.

A new spatial order is given to the building thanks to a new structural system made of exposed concrete pillars. A large living area on the ground floor opens up completely inside the lot with a terrace on two levels and a swimming pool, while the upper floor hosts the sleeping area.

The renovation made of smooth and neutral finishes, contrasts and enhances the typological elements and materials of the old structure.
