Faculty in Osijek

Designed by Peračić and Šilje in Osijek, the Civil Engineering Faculty is dissolved along the length by a series of internal terrace and skylights, which are places for informal interaction, learning and working.

The volume of new building of the Faculty of Engineering is determined by the urban plan almost as interpolation, the default form, embedded in a set of planned buildings. It is open to the shorter sides, and its longer facade oriented on a narrow and high facades to neighboring buildings. To receive natural light and air cross ventilation, section of the building is profiled. On the west side the narrow passage is expanded and connected with hallway and porch, with larger areas for gathering. On the eastern side chamfer fronts gave more light for the classrooms and lecture halls.

  The volume of the building is dissolved along the length by a series of internal terrace and skylights, which are places for informal interaction, learning and working. Natural light penetrates to the ground and air to every room in the middle of the building. Longitudinal section emphasizes the importance of communication space in contemporary education, designed as a place of individual and informal group work, meetings, large and small events. The building is walkable from the basement to the last floor through a series of broad communication with different additional functions; as open classrooms, canteen, stands next to a student club, terraces, patios, lobby office area, parking for bicycles or motor archaeological site located beneath the building.

All corridors are open ended, which emphasizes the open character of the building and provides additional illumination. Supporting structure consists of five continuous beams performed in natural reinforced concrete. They emphasize the basic cross section of the building. They are an essential element which forms a space. Perforated are to form the necessary cross connections, passing, penetration of light, visual contact or okrupnili larger spaces. Moving through the building represents a cinematic experience made out of a series of individual, character space, which connects the environment shaped bearing structure and light in countless variations.
