The decision was made last November by the jury of the international competition held by the City Council. The German architect has redesigned the volumes and the green area which includes a hillock. Her composition is made up of simple geometric figures that seem to form a reverse quotation of the solid and opaque forms, the parallelepiped and the cylinder of the Swedish master’s building. The low entrance part, which will house the newspaper reading zone and the cafe, separates the road from the park, of which it offers a pleasant view along the curvilinear front.
The library’s themed areas are raised on the various floors of the main building: an essential volume, partly gutted by another, smaller cylinder, with semi-transparent glazing that will open the library onto the city. Silvia Monaco
