In Denmark, near Kronborg Castle
(Shakespearian site and patrimony of
UNESCO), a Maritime Museum is to be
built designed by competition winners
Bjarke Ingels Group.
The chosen site is
a disused and drained dock.
The building, which will house a
museum covering 5,000 square metres,
will be set in the gaps between the
quays with a system of bridges serving
as pathways and functional spaces.
The system of docks will remain
unaltered and legible as empty spaces
that can be crossed on foot. The
architects have emphasised the
decision not to fill, instead creating an
invisible architecture that answers
Hamlet's question with a decisive “not
to be”.Silvia Monaco
