London based LAB Architecture – already responsible for the award winning Federation Square, the new “cultural heart” of Melbourne, where in 1997 they opened another studio – are the winners of a competition to build a business centre at Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.

The theatrical looking project, commissioned by Alsheikh Saleh A. Al Rajhi, consists of six tall towars, six parallelepipeds, some inclined, some straight, all connected together at ground level by gardens and shopping areas. To screen the buildings from the heat of the desert, the façade will be clad in perforated anodised aluminium panels.

Construction work is due to start in early 2007 to be concluded by 2009. E.S.
