The choice of the jury, lead by Stefano Boeri, consists of a mixture of Italians (four in all; Andrea Branzi, Giancarlo De Carlo, Marco Bay and Marco Navarra) and architects from abroad (the remaining six: Adriaan Geuze, Martha Schwarz, Mathias Lehner, Kathryn Gustafson, Michio Sugawara and Peter Walker). A mixture also of well established names and younger practices.
The ten groups have now the task of developing their proposals (by 21 January), which will be evaluated by the jury at the beginning of February. That’s not all though; the campus is just the first step of the “Città della moda” project, consisting of universities, exhibition spaces, shops and offices which should be completed by 2009. The project is also novel for the fact that it shouldn’t weigh on the council’s budget, costs being covered by the planning fees paid by the developer and contractor, the Hines group together with the seven owners of the site. The architect responsible for coordinating the masterplan will be Cesar Pelli.
