Around a hundred drawings, collages and models from their own collection, some never before shown, go to make up the exhibition that DAM in Frankfurt dedicates to the utopian architecture of the revolutionary British group Archigram.

Ambiguity and fantasy, various levels of interpretation and irony are the elements which most characterise the work of the six architects - Peter Cook, Michael Webb, Dennis Crompton, David Green, Warren Chalk and Ron Herron – very much a mirror of their times: the same attributes also made them difficult to classify.

As critics at the time pointed out, their projects, despite being designed for fun, were always taken very seriously. So what was their utopian principle? A belief in architecture as a democratic tool for social progress
