The “first stone” of Jean Nouvel’s ‘Kilometro Rosso’ is on show at the Teatro Sociale in Bergamo. The wall – made in metal with red wings slightly inclined upwards, a kilometre long and ten metres high – will identify the future Science and Technology Park at Stezzano on the site of the manufacturer of brakes for luxury cars, Brembo.
A long bright red ribbon running alongside the Milan-Venice motorway which cannot fail to be noticed and which will serve to hide the green area behind it as well as holding the necessary services for the buildings in the park: a lightweight reflective glass structure to hold laboratories, education centres, studios and research facilities (172 000 square metres). Above the wall an evocative view of the ancient upper part of the city can be seen.
The exhibition also offers a chance for a look at the future layout of the park: 300 000 square metres which will hold many examples of plants from the Bergamo area.
