Libeskind and Think Design “favourites” for Ground Zero

The tower-garden by Daniel Libeskind and the two latticework towers designed by the team Think Design, lead by Rafael Viñoly, Frederic Schwartz and Shigeru Bana are the two most likely “finalists” in the competition for Ground Zero.

The news was reported in the New York Post, who pointed out though that it is a case of simple preference which emerged from an initial meeting of a number of members of the commission. In “third place” the glass tower by Norman Foster, a design judged however to be not very practical and not very commercially viable.

The final decision? This will be down to the Port Authority, the LMDC, governer Pataki and the mayor of New York Bloomberg who will meet on Monday 3 February. The winner should be announced by the end of the month.
