Gold Medal for Italian architecture

Promoting contemporary Italian architecture – the most interesting – and recognising the architects behind it. This is the aim of the Medaglia D’Oro dell’Architettura, a new award promoted by the Triennale in Milan.

Every three years a jury will chose the best in Italian architecture, the best first work (by architects under 40), for private or public clients, and the best critical work. The starting gun went off on 1 December with the collection of the initial proposals – from around forty editors from leading magazines, critics, directors of academic bodies – but there is time until the end of February to make nominations. Architects can also put forward their work and the public can give their comments at the Triennale.

The final decision will be made by a jury lead by Giancarlo De Carlo which includes Gillo Dorfles, Pio Baldi, Vittorio Magnago Lampugnani and Kurt Foster. The first meetings will take place in March whilst the winner is due to be announced in May 2003.
