Hans Kollhoff to design new ministerial buildings in Den Haag

Hans Kollhoff is to design two new government buildings – for justice and internal affairs – for the Dutch city Den Haag, not far from the famous complex by Aldo Rosi. The German architect is the winner of a limited competition, chosen by a jury lead by Fred van der Veen who preferred the scheme to those of the other candidates who included Bolles-Wilson, Mecanoo, Foster and Partners, Schmidt, Hammer-Lassen, NBBJ and Neutelings Riedijk.

The basic requirements of the brief were a building up to 50m high for shops and offices and two towers up to 140m high. The overall floor area is to be around 100,000 square metres whilst building costs are estimated at around 170 million euro.
