In March a large exhibition entitled "Kalvarienguertel" took place at de Singel in Antwerp. The end of the year sees the publication of a monograph dedicated entirely to their work from Spanish publisher Actar. 2001 looks like the big year for Croatian architect couple Helena and Hrvoje Nijiric who for around ten years have been doing the rounds of the competition seen, making themselves known for their highly innovative ideas. Their designs are communicated in a way that is usually brief and schematic: the basic idea summed up in a few lines, drawn by hand. Their architecture is communicative and full of impact, combining perfectly the digital and analogue world, setting out to be immediate and spontaneous. “Everything is in reach of the mouse”, maintains Hrvoje Nijiric for whom the computer doesn’t mean dependence but the opposite, frees up technique and method. Two of their latest projects are a house for the “urban nomad” (Parasite) and a university library in Barcelona (Think Pad).
