Ieri sono stati annunciati i vincitori del World Press Photo 2022. Il concorso, per la prima volta, oltre ai premi globali, ne prevedeva altri, regionali e suddivisi in sette aree geografiche: Africa, America del Nord e America Centrale, Asia, Europa, Oceania, Sud America e Sudest Asiatico.

Il World Press Photo of the Year è stato vinto dalla fotografa canadese Amber Bracken, con la foto “Kamloops Residential School”: abiti rossi appesi a delle croci lungo una strada sterrata, commemorano i bambini morti alla Kamloops Indian Residential School, nella British Columbia, un’istituzione creata per integrare i bambini indigeni, dove sono state scoperte ben 215 tombe non contrassegnate.

Il World Press Photo Long-Term Project è stato vinto da fotografo brasiliano Lalo de Almeida, con “Amazonian Dystopia”, che mostra la grave situazione in cui versa la foresta amazzonica a causa della crisi climatica e delle politiche di deforestazione del presidente Jair Bolsonaro.

Il World Press Photo Story of the Year è stato vinto dal fotografo australiano Matthew Abbott, con “Saving Forest with Fire”, in cui racconta il modo in cui gli indigeni australiani rimuovono col fuoco l’accumulo di residui vegetali nelle foreste che potrebbero causare grandi incendi.

Il World Press Photo Open format è andato all’ecuadoriana Isadora Romero, con “Blood is a Seed”, un video che parla della scomparsa dei semi di alcune specie e della perdita delle conoscenze ancestrali dell’umano.
