UILA is a hybrid between an electric cargo bike and an EV microcar. Developed by Berlin-based innovation studio nFrontier, it can reach a speed of 70km/h and carry up to 250kg of cargo.
By designing this prototype, nFrontier tried to explore the overlap between lightweight electric bikes and small electric vehicles, to envision a new vehicle type that could roam our cities in the future.
The concept EV was developed by nFrontier in partnership with Stratasys, an American-Israeli 3D-printing company. Its design is deliberately futuristic to blur the distinction between the vehicles it’s taking inspiration from. What sets UILA apart, more than its uncanny look, is its advanced intelligent functionalities that enhance the driving experience. With the paired UILA app, a user can activate the “Follow Me” and “Come to me” modes to have the vehicle follow a person automatically or get to them in autonomous driving mode.
While it’s still in its prototype phase, UILA might roam the streets of Germany soon. nFrontier is preparing the vehicle for mass production and is going through the bureaucratic hoops to make it street-ready by 2024.
