Google Glass is back with a new Enterprise version

The once beleaguered product keeps on living a new life as part of an enterprise oriented AR solution.

After the failure of the consumer version of its Glass wearable goggles Google has repurposed it AR platform for the workplace, as a competing solution to Microsoft’s mixed reality Hololens.
The company has recently unveiled a new version of the device, the Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2. The glasses sport a new design, a faster processor and a brighter display with a 640 x 480 resolution, which to the wearer will look like 30 inch display positioned at a 1,8m distance.

The new Glass have a better 8MP camera and it runs pure Android, now. Google says that developing apps and enterprise solutions for the platform has never been easier.
The pain point is still the battery: it’s been updated with a better one, but the battery life is still peaking at 2hrs of video streaming, meaning one single pair of Glass can be used only for a fraction of the workday.
The selling point for Google is the array of options that the device will open for upgrading and speeding up company processes. Supervisors, for example, will be able to share the workers’ point of view and give instructions, while the workers could record notes during an inspection of a machine or a property.
