Carolyn Tam, a student at the Imperial College London, has developed a special “pixel paint” that can be used to create an LCD display by painting it on any surface. The special paint dots, wired together through a circuit drawn manually with silver ink, can change in color when a current runs through them, more or less like traditional pixel in a LCD monitor.
“TechniChrome overcomes the limitation of traditional displays”, said Tam, “and provides a radically new and easy way to apply digital displays on almost any surface - including curve and flexible surfaces”. The project is still under development and it’s unclear if Tam will be able to develop a commercial product out of the current prototype.
