Dutch brand Botter showed a lineup of 3D-printed trainers, designed in collaboration with Reebok and produced in Barcelona by HP. The sneakers model is inspired by the shell of the murex sea snail, an object that the Greek goddess Venus used to comb her hair.

The rippled sole resembles the shell that, according to mythology, the Greek goddess used to comb her hair, the murex.

The project was developed using advanced computational techniques and to produce the shoes, a layer of grey TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) is inserted after another into an HP Jet Fusion 5200 3D printer, that uses a liquid binder to fuse the different layers of TPU together, while a powder bed provides some sort of scaffold to support the various parts of the shoe as they are printed. The shoe is then removed from the printer and the parts are cleaned and finished. At the end of the process, each shoe was hand-painted to recall the marine tones that featured the entire Botter’s Autumn Winter 2023 collection.
