Foster + Partners has designed a dog kennel

Called Dome-Home, it is a geodesic shell structure and was designed for a competition dedicated to architecture for dogs.

Foster + Partners designed Dome-Home kennel for the Goodwoof’s Barkitecture competition presented by Mastercard UK, an architectural exhibition showcasing cutting-edge kennel design. The event takes place on 28 and 29 May at Goodwood House in Chichester (South-east England). Architects from around the world are competing for the “Single Kennel Design Award” for a single or double occupancy dog kennel.

Barkitecture will bring together the final shortlisted kennels which are expected be auctioned by Bonhams in a live sale on Sunday 29 May. Among them there is Dome-Home, a small geodesic shell structure made of cherrywood, handcrafted by the English furniture-maker Benchmark. The bowl-shaped interior has a flexible removable padded fabric liner that closely follows the geometry of the shell.

All proceeds will be donated to Goodwoof’s chosen charity, Dog’s Trust.
