Allegrini Award 2022 goes to the Director of Gallerie d'Italia

Michele Coppola has won the tenth edition of Premio Allegrini “L'Arte di mostrare l'Arte” for managing to integrate social responsibility in a cultural programme.

Within the vast landscape of private companies committed to culture and art, the case of Intesa Sanpaolo banking group has always been linked to the high social value of its initiatives, including exhibitions, public programs, and projects such as Restituzioni, which since 1989 has restored more than two thousand works of public and private artistic heritage. The Gallerie d'Italia operation, then, with four palaces owned by the institution being opened to the public as exhibition venues in four cities across the Peninsula, has placed Intesa Sanpaolo among the most important players within the public system of Italian culture. This are some of the reasons why on December 13 the Premio Allegrini “L'Arte di mostrare l'Arte” (The Art of Showing Art) 2022 has been awarded to the director of Gallerie, Michele Coppola.

For 10 editions now, the Verona-based Allegrini winery has annually awarded the Prize to curators and personalities from the world of art and culture who have created original and immersive exhibition concepts, and this year the aim has been to specifically reward the cultural and artistic commitment that a private company has developed towards the community. Coppola, who is also Executive Director of Art, Culture and Historical Assets at Intesa Sanpaolo, has received the award for “…the quality work he has carried out at Gallerie d'Italia, fully integrating into the Progetto Cultura (Culture Project) the social responsibility that Intesa Sanpaolo has actively put into practice in its museum and cultural centres”, as Giancarlo Mastella, Director of Villa Della Torre and member of the jury, hasstated. A concrete stimulus to the cultural and civil growth of the entire country, as well as a great effort in the direction of protecting its heritage. Past award winners include Salvatore Settis, Rem Koolhaas and Fondazione Prada for the “Serial/Portable Classic” exhibition, the curators of exhibitions such as “Paolo Veronese: l’illusione della realtà”, “Da Kandinsky a Pollock. La grande arte dei Guggenheim” and Raphael at Scuderie del Quirinale in Rome; or curators of institutions such as Palazzo Strozzi in Florence and the Frick Collection in New York.
