Vienna Design Week 2017

At the end of September the Vienna Design Week 2017 will take place with more events, a new design district and the spotlight on Romanian design.

With over 100 events all over the city, The Vienna Design Week 2017 – Austria’s largest design festival – is structured around two key features that change each year: the focus district with the headquarters, and the guest country. Under the spotlight will be the 15th District and Romania.

The 11th festival year is introducing a new location, from the Danube Canal to Schwarzenbergplatz, and from Praterstrasse to Mahlerstrasse. The organization team is composed by Lilli Hollein as the director, Julia Hürner as the deputy director, Alexandra Toth, Gabriel Roland, Nadia Brandstätter, Annika Strassmair and Julia Riesenberg. This year’s festival graphics by Christof Nardin/Bueronardin start out from the very origins of design: colour, material and form. The festival directed by Lilli Hollein fosters a new awareness of design and envisages this not only in its aesthetic function but especially as a profound and elemental component of our everyday life.

The Vienna Design Team 2017

As every year, the festival will host exhibitions, workshops, participatory projects, talks, collaborations and guided tours throughout Vienna. It will present national and international projects, positions, formation and production processes, also experimental approaches in architecture, graphics, and design in all fields – product, furniture, and social design; most contributions are being produced on commission of the festival especially for the event.
