Anacapri 2017

Curated by Arianna Rosica and Gianluca Riccio, the Anacapri Landscape Festival is full of exhibits and events, reaffirming the island of Capri as a place of artistic production.

Following the 2016 edition dedicated to Luigi Ghirri, this year the festival commemorates the hundredth anniversary of Fortunato Depero’s arrival in Capri, where in the summer of 1917 Depero enjoyed one of his most intense seasons of creativity.
This year’s programme is even more fully lined with exhibits and events, continuing on the path to reaffirming the island of Capri as a place of artistic production and as a vantage point conducive to a wide-ranging reflection upon the contemporary landscape: on its interpretation, on the various possible readings of the landscape – both natural and cultural – that surround us, that we live in and are called upon to reshape.
The Landscape Festival features an event calendar that will enliven and extend Capri’s summer up until October, with a programme of resident-artists and workshops with students on the island, as well as a fuller-than-ever schedule of exhibits, even including site-specific installations.

“1917-2017 Depero/Mendini” is a commemorative exhibit, dedicated by Milanese architect and designer Alessandro Mendini to the great futurist artist’s Caprisian season: it is an itinerary of echoes and cross-references through time and history. The collective exhibit “Anatomy of the Landscape” at the San Nicola cloister interprets, through the theme of the swimming pool, the landscape as both physical and mental place, constantly hanging in the balance between an artificial dimension and a natural condition.

After having run installations by Liliana Moro and Stefano Arienti at Villa Axel Munthe in 2016, this year Open features Turin-based group Nucleo. Open aims to deliver site-specific events and works of art within the Capri landscape, by resident guest artists with Travelogue, a project involving workshops with Capri students.
