Aloha Espresso Bar

Taking inspiration from the geography of Hawaii and the cultural meanings behind the aloha spirit, Jean de Lessard designed the Aloha Espresso Bar in the heart of Montréal.

Jean de Lessard design studio designed a themed café in Old Montreal that goes beyond mere style and tries to bring some Hawaiian authenticity. The Aloha Espresso Bar brings together food specialties in a space with a “fixed-up” feel.

Set into an old warehouse store, the design explores the history of Hawaii and the spirit of aloha with a home-built construction and subtly talks about the topography, geology and anthropology of the archipelago. The ceiling and wooden beams and the coloured concrete floor was left as it was, while wooden furniture and lamps are all custom-made. The wall decorations are all references to the archipelago’s culture and bring a warm atmosphere to the interiors.
