Cold Picnic is a line of textiles, macramé home goods, leather accessories, and handmade jewelry, designed by Phoebe Sung and Peter Buer. Deeply influenced by the powdery yet vibrant palettes of 1970s films, the couple began working on various side projects in an effort to explore traditional crafts filtered through modern sensibilities.

Picnic’s work explores imagined and misremembered landscapes, and the effects of time and the elements upon their surfaces. The Passenger rugs were inspired by the colors and landscapes from the 1975 Michelangelo Antonioni film The Passenger. In the spirit of landscape building, they created a series of worlds for each rug style encased within cardboard boxes. The yarn for the rugs is tye dyed in India before being hand-tufted into a limited quantity of rugs.
