Art Film Festival in Venice

Punta della Dogana selected ten films from the IX edition of the art film festival “Lo Schermo dell’arte”, and will be shown at the Teatrino of Palazzo Grassi in Venice.

The Teatrino of Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana in Venice, will present for four days a selection of films from the ninth edition of “Lo schermo dell’arte Film Festival” dedicated to art films, with the participation of some authors such as Khalil Joreige, Luca Trevisani and Omer Fast.

 

Directed by Silvia Lucchesi, the ninth edition of the Florentine exhibition analyzes the relationship between cinema and contemporary art. Ten films and artists’ documentaries have been specially selected for the Venetian public. It starts with Marcie Begleiter who dedicated a film to the American artist Eva Hesse, followed by the movie A Brief Story of Princess X by Gabriel Abrantes, where the artist converses ironically on the composition of the famous sculpture by Constantin Brancusi, and Ismyrne by Lebanese duo Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige, who investigate the concepts of identity and through the words of poet and artist Etel Adnan.

Other projections on show are Where is Rocky II? by Pierre Bismuth, on the obsessive search for a fake painted rock that was later hidden in the Mojave Desert by Ed Ruscha in 1979; the documentary Hockney by Randall Wright; #Artoffline by Manuel Correa, is a reflection on the online fruition of the works of art; Sudan, a documentary by Luca Trevisani about the existence last living specimen of the white northern rhino, and Remainder, the first film by Omer Fast. Finally, The Lives of Chinese Uli Sigg by Michael Schindhelm, deals with the story of the great Swiss collector who first got interested with the new Chinese generations, and Do not Blink Robert Frank by Laura Israel: an exclusive portrait of the famous American photographer and documentary filmmaker.
