Porcupine

Taking 3D printing to its limits, Finnish designer Ilkka Suppanen conceives Porcupine, an evocative lamp made of resin and copper.

Porcupine is a light that pushes the limits of 3D printing. Ilkka Suppanen has created a large-sized design object that embodies the natural phenomenon of light, bringing to life classic Scandinavian design values with state-of-the-art technology.

After the first model was created, Maria Wettergren Gallery in Paris invited Ilkka to continue working with the concept with larger 3D printed pieces. Ilkka made a 72 cm version and, afterwards, created a new 72 cm version with a 3D printed base and copper sticks instead substituting the original 3D printed resin sticks.
