Materials Village
A small city block of containers and houses big and small is exploring new materials and work processes that offer ideas and solutions for the future of the production world.

Hugely diverse sectors are involved – from ceramics by Florim, which has for years been working on small thicknesses, large formats and reducing the environmental impact of the production cycle, to furnishing and design from Coalesse, a brand producing occasional furnishings in carbon fibre, and Carmon@ Carbon, which works with non-metallic materials, predominantly carbon, fibreglass and other composites. There is even technology with 3M showcasing light applications created with Scotchlite™, the cutting edge in retroflexion technology and XL Extralight®, a foam material that originated in the footwear sector; extremely resistant, durable, light and flameproof, the only challenge is to come up with countless new applications. Small thicknesses and personalisation are the playground of Tileskin®, a fine adhesive coating that renews a ceramic surface by applying a new decorative graphic. It comes with a five-year guarantee and can be removed, returning the surface to its original state.

The focus on sustainability is strong and Oltremateria® is a water-based continuous-surface system for walls and floors that offers excellent yields, even on underheated floors; applicable to flat or textured surfaces, it can be personalised in colour/composition and is non-toxic, fire-resistant, breathable and frost-proof. Oikos features textures with a low environmental impact, proposed in new mixes and application methods, and a new colour chart by Daniel Libeskind.
