Camper Together in Milan

Camper presents its Together store in Milan, created by Kengo Kuma: a grid of wooden boards measuring the size of a shoe, that multiplies to become a complex construction.

For the Together store Kengo Kuma covered all the walls around the store with a system of very basic plywood boards, mounted using the most simple and basic connection system imaginable.
Each simple wooden board hides between the lights for the display case and highlights the depth of the construction: it is actually an extremely sophisticated and fully integrated lighting system, created together with Mario Nanni.

With the same idea of seeking maximum simplicity, the system of boards was conceived based on a grid of 32 x 32 cm, a dimension which follows the standard shoe size displayed in the stores. However, due to the different position of the vertical boards, suddenly the system becomes a very complex and random three-dimensional construction when viewed from this perspective.

The choice of materials was limited to just two: the plywood boards on the walls and natural stone for the floor. In spite of this, the raw finish of the boards and the varying surfaces of the acid-treated limestone slabs on the floor fill the space with rich textures and tones. This duality which coexists between what is simple and basic at first sight, and then complex and sophisticated when you take a closer look, is what fascinates us most about Camper’s attitude towards design.
