For many years, the stadium remained in usable condition with reforms and basic maintenance, deterioration with the natural action of weather and heavy use. Roof coverage was a request from fans, as well as general infrastructure improvements. With the decision to reform and modernize the stadium, projects began to be developed.
The refurbishment includes the maintenance of the main structure of the stadium with new lower tiers and modernization of facilities for general public, including new VIP areas, replacement of old electrical and plumbing systems, complementing the information systems of the stadium, replacing the football field grass (with modification of the drainage system), new roof with metal structure and PTFE membrane and building a garage for 3,000 vacancies.
To get the home of S.C. Internacional ready for the World Cup, more than 30 architecture and engineering projects involve the inside and outside of the Beira-Rio Stadium. These include the new metallic cover, which was already part of the modernization project for the stadium even before the 2014 World Cup.
