Marsotto and work / 81

The theme chosen for this years’s collection is work, as seen by six designers: Jasper Morrison, Konstantin Grcic, Naoto Fukasama, Ross Lovegrove, Philippe Nigro and Studio Irvine.

An indispensable part of our lives that continually invades and often breaks the distinction between home and office, work embraces a vast variety of activities and related equipment

The 2014 collection includes large oval and round tables with support columns by Jasper Morrison, a rectangular one by Naoto Fukasawa, complete with a corner connection to create a large square, a reception desk by Philippe Nigro, two interpretations of a chess table, by Ross Lovegrove; and a computer top by Konstantin Grcic, composed of two elements joined by a pin, which can rotate to produce different configurations. Its mechanisms and structure are reminiscent of the Joy bookcase by Achille Castiglioni, a master already referred to by Grcic in the Ok lamp presented for Flos at last year’s Milan Furniture Show.

Marsotto, the Vicenza maker now into its fifth generation, likes to rise to the challenges posed by particular projects like these, with their thin but resistant surfaces, curved tops and large dimensions.

With the expansion of our surfaces”, says Costanza Olfi, “thicknesses and silhouettes on the other hand diminish, presenting a challenge to be met with new technical solutions backed by constant research and and by the know-how passed down into our family”. Marsotto chose as its location the Napoleonic room at the Brera Accademia di Belle Arti, thus returning to the place where their ancestors studied the art of sculpture in the early twentieth century. A tribute to the company’s origins and to Italian culture.
