This significance is highlighted especially in the context of current times, as it represents a period of respect for diversity, pluralism and the co-existence of different cultures and religions.

Due to its cultural importance and the considerable international attention it receives, a design for the extension of this unique monument represents a very delicate task.
Addressing these challenges along with, according to Siza himself, his life-long relationship with the Alhambra, has turned the project into the most essential in Siza’s oeuvre.

The exhibition will present the winning design of the 2010 International Competition for a New Atrium for the Alhambra World Heritage Site, led by the team of Álvaro Siza Vieira and Juan Domingo Santos.
Through different media - original sketches, technical drawings, 3D renderings, working models, photographs, video interviews and an installation as reference to the Alhambra - the, exhibition provides a comprehensive understanding of this remarkable project. It will also give an insight in the historical and cultural context of this more than 1000-year-old monument.
