Raw Design: Nuzzles

Nuzzles is the winning project of 2014 Warming Huts Competition: created by Raw Design, it brings glowing mounds on the frozen Assiniboine River landscape.

Raw Design: Nuzzles
The 2014 edition of the Warming Huts competition invited architects from all over the world to submit proposals for warming huts to be installed on the Red River Mutual Trail in Winnipeg, Canada.
The winning project Nuzzles, by Canadian Raw Design, is inspired by the insulating properties of fur.

Moving away from the introverted enclosure, Nuzzles exhibits a hemispherical core, encompassed by a multitude of foam appendages which allow users to nestle into the structure.

Constructed from a geodesic framework of metal conduit and an outer layer of foam bristles (pool noodles), Nuzzles offers protection from wind and creates an inner pocket of still air in order to increase thermal capacity. Occupants are encouraged to playfully engage with bristles in order to sculpt informal seating spaces as well change the lighting dispersions of the glowing structure.
